       17-4 PH steel (AMS 5604) is a grade of martensitic, precipitation-hardening stainless steel with the additions of chromium, nickel, and copper. 17-4 stainless steel has a valuable combination of high strength, good corrosion resistance, and toughness in both base metals and welds. This material provides excellent corrosion resistance (comparable to grade 304) for many medical, chemical, paper, and food processing industries, and it withstands corrosive attacks better than most hardenable stainless steels. These properties give designers the ability to add reliability to their products while simplifying fabrication and often reducing their costs. High strength is maintained to approximately 600°F (316°C).  17-4ph has good resistance to stress corrosion cracking at higher aging temperatures.  



CHARACTERISTICS OF 17-4 PH STAINLESS STEEL


Also known as Alloy 630, type 17-4PH is the most widely used of all precipitation-hardening steels. Compared to other PH alloys, it requires a simple heat treatment to produce a wide range of properties, including its high strength. It has a slightly higher ferrite content than other PH grades, making it a bit more magnetic. To improve formability, heat treatments may be used before cold working.

heat treatment specifications and metallographic structure: Heat treatment specifications: 1) solution 1020 ~ 1060℃ rapid cooling; 2) Aging at 480℃, after solution treatment, air cooling at 470 ~ 490℃; 3) Aging at 550℃, after solution treatment, air cooling at 540 ~ 560℃; 4) Aging at 580℃, after solution treatment,570 ~ 590℃ air cooling; 5) Aging at 620℃, after solution treatment, air cooling at 610 ~ 630℃. Metallographic structure: The structure is characterized by precipitation hardening type.


●17-4PH state of delivery: generally in the heat treatment state of delivery, the type of heat treatment is indicated in the contract; If not specified, the goods shall be delivered in non-heat treatment condition. Note: (1) The single value is the highest unless otherwise indicated; (2) When used in some pipe making processes, the nickel content of some types of austenitic stainless steel must be slightly higher than the value shown in the table; At will; (4) The maximum TA content was 0.10%; The highest content was 0.75%; The highest content of 0.70% 17-4PH alloy is precipitated, hardened, martensitic stainless steel. The 17-4PH alloy is a precipitated, hardened, martensitic stainless steel composed of copper, niobium/coltan. This grade offers high strength, hardness (up to 300 ° C /572 ° F) and corrosion resistance.


After heat treatment, the mechanical properties of the product are more perfect, can reach up to 1100-1300 mpa (160-190 ksi) compressive strength. This rating cannot be used at temperatures higher than 300 ° C (572 ° F) or at very low temperatures. It has good corrosion resistance to both atmospheric and diluted acids or salts. It has the same corrosion resistance as 304 and 430.
