What is DIN1.4521 stainless steel?
DIN1.4521 steel belongs to high alloy ferritic stainless steel, compared with the commonly used steel SUS430:1. The chromium content is about 1.0% higher, and the alloying element molybdenum (Mo) is added, so the steel has good pitting corrosion resistance, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion resistance, and its corrosion resistance is even better than SUS304 and SUS316 in some fields. 2. The addition of titanium (Ti), niobium (Nb), zirconium (Zr) and other stabilizing elements, so the steel has good intergranular corrosion resistance and high temperature oxidation resistance. 2, use
The yield strength of DIN1.4521 is 1.5 times that of carbon steel and 6 times that of glass steel. It has outstanding advantages for earthquake resistance, snow resistance, wind pressure resistance and impact resistance. DIN1.4521 ferritic stainless steel high thermal conductivity, about 130% ~ 150% of chrome-nickel austenitic stainless steel, very suitable for the use of heat exchange. Small coefficient of thermal expansion, the small unit is only 60% ~ 70% of chrome-nickel austenitic stainless steel, very suitable for thermal expansion, cold contraction, thermal cycle conditions. The steel has good plasticity and toughness and is suitable for stretching, rolling forming and stamping. In particular, the application of corrosion resistance is the most excellent, in high chloride medium corrosion resistance performance is better than ordinary ferritic stainless steel and Olympic tensitic stainless steel, generally does not produce chloride stress corrosion crack. After adding Ni,Ti,Mo and other elements, the resistance of pore-corrosion and crevice corrosion is improved. The steel can be welded in the same way as ordinary stainless steel. The steel is especially suitable for food processing equipment, heat exchangers, water heater tanks, water storage tanks, solar panels and so on.
DIN1.4521 steel belongs to high alloy ferritic stainless steel, compared with the commonly used steel SUS430:
1. Chromium content is about 1.0% high, and the addition of alloy element Molybdenum (Mo), so the steel has good pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion ability, its corrosion resistance in some areas even better than SUS304 and SUS316.
2. The addition of titanium (Ti), niobium (Nb), zirconium (Zr) and other stabilizing elements, so the steel has good intergranular corrosion resistance and high temperature oxidation resistance.

CORROSION RESISTANCE
DIN1.4521 stainless has 250 times the corrosion resistance of mild steels and is particularly good in corrosion/abrasion applications.
Corrosion/Abrasion
The cycle of abrasive removal of a metal surface following surface corrosion rapidly erodes mild/carbon steels even when costly coatings are applied. In wet or damp conditions where abrasion is present type 444 provides excellent performance by resisting corrosion attack and thus maintaining better flow and slide-ability compared to non-alloyed or low-alloy steels including abrasion resistant grades.
WELDABILITY
Type 00Cr18Mo2 has a fine-grained microcosmicture which reduces grain growth in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) and allow high integrity welds in section thicknesses up to 30 mm. Suitable weld processes include SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, PAW, Laser, Spot and Seam. Design and welding procedure consideration must be taken to avoid sensitization occurring in service.
COATING & PAINTING
Type DIN1.4521 provides good corrosion resistance and excellent abrasion resistance, hence does not need coating or painting systems to be applied for performance reasons. For aesthetic reasons it may be desirable in some applications to apply paint, especially as type 444 will tend to discolour in corrosive conditions. Type DIN1.4521 has exceptional under-paint corrosion resistance and will continue to resist corrosion even where the paint coat has been damaged. Normal preparation is required, such as ensuring a clean surface free of grease and other contamination. A primer coat is recommended for cold-rolled material due to its smoother surface, but hot rolled 1D finish material may be suitably painted in a single coat.
